Remember when movie night didn't involve an endless scroll of lackluster options for "content" on streaming platforms? Or the time before texting, FOMO-fueled screen-light, and all-too-often disregarded requests to "Please silence your cellphones now" at cinemas?

Announcing
The Analog Oasis, where we invite you to take a break from streaming, news feeds, social media, AI, and the infinite-scroll desert of distractions inherent to our hyper-digitized everyday lives. These will be a series of pop-up film screenings and other curated experiences centering around offline engagement with film, friends, art and culture in an intentionally disconnected format.

We partner with local businesses, artists and venues in unexpected places to tailor collaborative programming, intimate in-person gatherings, and one-of-a-kind presentations. Join our mailing list to be notified of upcoming events.

The Analog Oasis is a strictly phone/device-free event. A phone check will be provided at the door, and while we encourage you to embrace the analog spirit for the duration if possible, you may access your phone at anytime outside the event/screening area.

A few remarks from Hotel Hardware Owner/Operator Padraic Slattery…

Our beloved Stand By Me mural was painted by Spokane street legend Daniel Lopez, also known as Godfitti. He did this monumental painting with nothing but aerosol spray paint and scaffolding over the course of five days. (On the sixth day he rested.) The mural is roughly 20 feet tall and 60 feet long, and the project captured the attention and applause of two of the surviving actors from the film.

This movie was selected because of its intergenerational appeal. As one of the most highly-acclaimed adaptations of a Stephen King story ever put to film, this coming-of-age classic is a testament to friendship and brotherhood regardless of the consequences.

My daughter is named in honor of the character Chris Chambers from the film, played by River Phoenix. Chris was written off by many at a very early age. While he even doubted himself, he defied the odds through perseverance and determination, eventually going to college and becoming a lawyer.
As Gordie recalls in the end, one night Chris was stabbed in the neck breaking up a fight at a fast-food restaurant, and died almost instantly. He gave up his life for the sake of preventing violence among complete strangers.

The world needs more Chris Chambers. My daughter carries on his legacy and spirit.

I’m proud to be hosting this first annual screening of Stand By Me at Hotel Hardware in collaboration with Ghost Village Films. We’re showing the film in August, the same month as its original release nearly 40 years ago. It will be a special night for us, and I look forward to sharing it with you.
